Overview Internship Design in Cape Town, South Africa

The mission of this enterprise that started in 2000 is to sustain incomes for talented craft-artists in the field of wire and bead art by creating beautiful art pieces.

These talented employees design and produce fine, imaginative finished products that have become the company’s signature. Custom-made products and corporate gifts are a cornerstone of the work done.

The project is providing skills training, support and raw materials necessary to enable over 120 formerly jobless men and women to channel their natural energies into vibrant art creations. All crafts are hand-made by permanently employed artists that work full time from the studios in Cape Town and sold to local and international customers.

The company is reducing crime, poverty and malnutrition by providing secure, sustainable employment and continuous training to the growing team of wire and bead artists. Employees are empowered to teach their new-found skills to others and in so doing create a ripple effect of upliftment throughout several towns and communities. Recently, the company was involved in wire art training workshops with street children, schools and tertiary institutions and a couple of AIDS charities. The organization is fair trade certified.

Your coordinator in Cape Town

"My name is Jana Williams, I am originally from Germany, but living in South Africa for 8 1/2 years. Nearly 6 years of those I stayed in the mother city of Cape Town. I am now managing all internship and volunteer placements for Studentsgoabroad Cape Town. During my studies of Social Work I did internships abroad myself. I have been to London, India and even in Cape Town which was 12 years ago. While still living in Germany I started placing interns in Southern African countries and always enjoyed this activity. This activity is interesting, exciting, versatile and most of all positive, as a stay abroad always enlarges the personal horizon."a
