About this position

Overview: Volunteer teaching project in primary schools in Ubud, Bali

Ubud is the heart of Bali. It is so magical, cultural and beautiful that is hard to describe in words. It is here, where you will assist the local teacher in a small primary school.  Although the importance of English as the language of business and tourism has been recognized throughout Bali, most local schools don't have sufficient funds to employ well-educated teachers or native English speaker. Teachers will pass on their poor English skills to the student, who will barely have a chance to find a job opportunity in the tourism branch. Our volunteer projects aim to bridge this gap and support the primary schools with volunteers who are either native English speaker or well-educated second language English speaker.

What to expect

Description: Volunteer in a Teaching Project in Bali

As a volunteer English teacher you will work with kids from grade 4 to 6 of the elementary school. You will assist the teacher in their daily activities and will teach English in the after school project. The main aim is to give them more confidence in communicating with the new language. The school lacks of proper English teachers, so volunteers are very welcome. Tasks:
  • Monday to Friday 8/9 am to 11 am teaching assist the teachers in the primary school
  • Tuesday to Friday teaching English in the afternoon program from 2 pm to 4 pm
  • Every Saturday English lessons for all classes from 4 to 6.
  • Help them to be able to communicate with this new language
  • Help to raise awareness for necessary hygiene standards like washing the hands before the school starts, or before and after lunch
  • Create English-based games in the afternoon projects
As a volunteer in this teaching project you don't have to bring special skills. It is sufficient if you are motivated to teach young children and to enjoy creating own ideas for games. Further requirements:
  • Volunteers need to prepare a teaching and activity plan, containing ideas of what they would like to teach or play during classes
  • No visible tattoes and piercings.

Time of arrival

We recommend to arrange an arrival from Tuesday to Thursday, that you have the chance to join the orientation day, which is always scheduled on Friday. You then have enough time to recover from the long flight, get to know your roommates and make your first trips.
