Overview: care volunteering on Galapagos, Ecuador

Care volunteers can add their support into 3 different day care center. Day care center from the municipality
This institution is part of the municipality from Santa Cruz City; it gives feeding
and integral education to the children of the island who have low economic
resources. This Day Care Center gives attention to approximately 100 children
from 10 months up to 5 years old. Bilingual day care center
This day care center was created to fulfill the educational needs of the children;the institution receives 45 children from 2 to 4 years old. Santa Cruz bilingual institute
This is an educative institution located in Santa Cruz Island, which gives integral education to kids from 2 to 4 years-old, it teaches Spanish and Englishlanguage, also, it takes care of physical and psychological kids integrity.This institution attends to a population of 25 children approximately and has acapacity of 45 children.

What to expect

Description: care volunteering on Galapagos, Ecuador

Day care center from the municipality Volunteers will work in this project from Monday until Friday from 7h30 in the
morning to 15h30 in the afternoon. The institution provide to the volunteer
breakfast and lunch.
  • To help by taking care of the children
  • To help by organizing recreational activities for the children.
  • To help during the lunch time.
  • To help in the area of bilingual stimulation.
Bilingual day care center The schedule is from Monday to Friday from 08H00 to 12H30, and it gives
attention in the following areas: Maternal, Pre Kinder and Kinder. 
  • To perform recreational activities with the children, such as: games,songs, stories, etc.
  • To help by elaborating puppets.
  • To help in the elaboration of didactic material.
  • To cooperate in the daily activities at the Day Care Center.
  • To give support in the area of early stimulation
Santa Cruz bilingual institute The schedule is from Monday to Friday since 8h00 until 12h00.
  • To organize didactic and recreational games with the children.
  • To help in the area of early stimulation.
  • To help by taking care of the children.
  • Teaching English for kids (songs, vocabulary of food, short expressions parts of body, etc).
  • To help by teaching English to the kids, by supporting in the area of Sports and developing artistic activities for the children

Itinerary of your stay abroad

Volunteer abroad program in Galápagos, Ecuador

Start date of project
The volunteer projects run throughout the year. Therefore, we are open for your individual suggestion, which we are going to propose to our partner organisation. Time of arrival
We recommend to arrange an arrival a few days beofre your start of the volunteer project. You can move in to your guest family up to 3 days before the official project starts at no additional costs. You then have enough time to recover from the long flight, get to know your host family and make your first trips. Arrival in Quito and Transfer to Galápagos Island
Arriving in a new country is always exciting. We want your arrival to be as relaxed as possible. One of the staff members of our partner organization will pick you up at the airport in Quito and bring you to an accommodation, where you will have a 2-day sleep over, before you head to Galápagos. Stopover in Quito
You will be in Quito for 2 nights, before you continue to the Galápagos Islands. Accommodation and meals are provided. After your stay you will be picked up again by the coordinator in Quito, who will drop you to the airport, where you will be transfered to the Galápagos Islands. Please note, that the transfer flight will be booked 15 days in advance. The project starts
On the first day of your project, you are accompanied by a member of our local partner who will answer all of your questions. The further project days your local contact person will always be available for you via phone if you have any concerns or issues to share with somebody. Free time & weekend
The weekend is totally yours! You may ask your local contact person from our partner organisation about upcoming events, sights, shopping tips or other must see’s. On some days there will be field trips organized by our partner organization. We recommend you to join them as it is always fun to experience a new country with others.  
Departure  You shall contact your local contact person a few days before your departure back home. Your coordinator will pick you up and drop you back to the airport to Quito again. You will have a sleep over in Quito again, before you head back home.

Your accommodation

Accommodation: volunteer program at the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador

In the Galápagos Islands, the volunteer will be received at the airport by the
host family in order to be taken at home.
The family in Galápagos Islands will provide to the Volunteer with the three daily meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Besides that, one member of the host family will take to the Volunteer to her/his first day at work in the Project and will introduce him/her to the coordinator in Galápagos. These are a few examples of the typical food that is served in the community: Breakfast: Green plantain patties with cheese and egg or arepas/tortillas or
omelets or an assortment of breads accompanied with coffee and milk, tea and
juice. Lunch: Chicken soup, salad and a meat serving or shrimp or crab soup with
cebiche and salad accompanied by white rice and juice Dinner: A mix of rice and fried fish or beefsteak and salad or chicken with pasta
accompanied by tea and coffee In the kitchen area a refrigerator is available for participants as well as purified water for drinking. Meals will be provided by the host family. In addition, participants are expected to help by keeping their rooms clean and in order. Please note: Participants must advise of their dietary needs (e.g. if they are vegetarian or have any allergies) prior to their departure.
