About this position

Overview: Community Work in Nosy Be, Madagascar

Apart from training youth, the Center’s main goal is to set up a showcase site for surrounding villages and for all of Nosy Be.You will take part in setting up this showcase site and also teach the Center’s cook about nutrition. You will also teach young trainees – as well as staff – English language, vis-a-vis the villagers. Participants will also teach them about nutrition and hygiene including the English language. You will also get a good opportunity to contribute in bringing positive changes in the lives of women there by sharing income generating activities and working with them.


What to expect

Description: Community Work in Nosy Be, Madagascar

As a volunteer you will have the following main responsibilities:

  • Teaching the staff in English
  • Teach nutrition and hygiene to the center's cook
  • Teach English to the women and children 
  • Create workshops to teach about hygiene and nutrition

Before your project work starts you will have an cultural introduction week to prepare you for the new and foreign culture.

Program flow in Madagascar

Program start

The programs always start on a Monday and ends on a Friday.

Arrival Date

We recommend to arrive on a Sunday because the airport pickup is only included on Sundays. Arrivals during weekdays and Saturday have to be organized by oneself or paid extra.

Arrival at the airport

You will arrive on Fascene Airport (NOS) in Nosy Be. From there you will be picked up by the transport coordinator who will bring you to your accommodation in Ambondrona. In case you are already in Madagascar you can organize your arrival by yourself or you can wait until Sunday and meet the transport coordinator at one of the airports.

Your accommodation

Accommodation during your volunteer program in Nosy Be, Madagascar

You will be accommodated together with all the other volunteers in a volunteer house in Ambondrona. In each room 4-6 people can be accommodated. The bathroom will be shared with your flatmates. The volunteer house offers a dining room, a lounge area, a garden, balcony and a roof terrace to relax. The houses doesn’t provide any laundry facilities.

Meals

You will be provided with 3 meals a day during weekdays and with 2 meals during the weekend. The food is a mix of Western and Malagasy cuisine and mostly vegetarian. The closest ATM and supermarket are a 15 minutes bus ride away.
