Description: Engineering Internship Abroad in Bali, Indonesia
Energy/Sustainability/Environmental Economist
Your tasks:
- Help research global energy, water and waste standards in tourism industry and indicators that are attainable, measurable and manageable for properties in Indonesia.
- Help create valid benchmarks in relation to internationally and nationally recognized environmental economic standards
- Help manage international energy and sustainability accounting as well as international energy, water and waste indicators.
- Help define and develop a financially feasible and representable environmental boundary as well as develop the necessary equations to internalize external costs from national energy production, the tourism industries over consumption of water and the tourism industries mass consumption of material´s and thereafter waste production
Prerequisites:
- Bachelors if possible a Master´s degree within the respective field
- Passion for what you are doing and capable of working in an Indonesian and international team
- Practical experience
- Flexibility and the capability to think outside of the box is a must
- Innovative spirit
Energy Engineering
Your tasks:
- Help research global energy, water and waste standards in tourism industry and indicators that are attainable, measurable and manageable for properties in Indonesia.
- Help create valid benchmarks in relation to internationally and nationally recognized environmental economic standards
- Model and define load and consumption curves
- Model and define savings and turnkey solutions
- Help define and develop financially feasible and representable solutions that support environmental boundary system development and savings contracts.
Prerequisites:
- Bachelor’s degree within the respective field of energy engineering
- Passion for the environment and capable of working in an Indonesian and international team
- Practical experience in heating / cooling load calculations
- Capable of understanding heat transfer calculations and HVAC System Design
- Flexibility and the capability to think outside of the box is a must
- Innovative spirit

Arrival at the Airport
Arriving in a new country is always exciting. We want your arrival to be as relaxed as possible. Upon special request, you will be picked you up at the airport and will be brought to your host family or your shared flat. A driver will be waiting for you at the airport with a sign with your name on it. If you cannot find a flight at the desired date, don’t worry. You can choose another one a few days earlier or later.
Orientation program
Within the first days of your arrival one of the team members of our partner organisation will visit you and show you around. You will get to know the country and its people and you will be informed about Do’s and Dont’s. Your local contact person will also provide useful hints for a better starting point in a new lifestyle. You can also join in a language course if you so desire.
Your internship starts
On the first day of your project, you are usually accompanied by a member of our local partner who will answer all of your questions. The further project days your local contact person will always be available for you via phone if you have any concerns or issues to share with somebody.
Free time & weekend
The weekend is totally yours! You may ask your local contact person from our partner organisation about upcoming events, sights, shopping tips or other must see’s. On some days there will be field trips organized by our partner organization. We recommend you to join them as it is always fun to experience a new country with others.
Departure
You shall contact your local contact person a few days prior to your departure to inform about options for your airport drop-off. It will not be included in the services of the internship programs, but our partner organization will help you organize it.

Internship accommodation in Bali
Bukit area:
All interns taking part in projects situated in the southern peninsula of Bali, Bukit, or near Nusa Dua, have the opportunity to live in a shared house. The house is rent by our partner organization and can accommodate up to 12 international volunteers or interns. It will not only be a short hop to your project, you will also save a lot of time driving through Bali’s busy roads to get to the ocean. The sandy beaches are only a few minutes with the scooter.
Ubud area:
Interns who complete an internship in a project area in Ubud are accommodated in carefully selected host families. The host families provide private rooms for each intern and breakfast and dinner can be joined with the family. Try to join everyday activities and you will see, how Balinese real lifestyle looks like. You will get a close insight into the Balinese culture and may improve your Bahasa skills. All host families are carefully selected and reliable.
Denpasar area:
In all projects situated in Denpasar, Kuta or Sanur, our partner organization will organize an apartment or shared room, as available in the particular area. You can choose between a place in the inner city or also on the beach side if you so desire. The arrangement of accommodation usually takes between one to three weeks.
How does the organization request work?
If you have already decided, which project you want to join, our partner organization will look for an accommodation which is close to the project and they will check the availability. If you have any special demands, please make a note in your registration form. If our partner found an appropriate accommodation, you will receive more information and pictures.

Laura was born in Surabaya, Java, and moved to Bali several years ago to finish her English Literature Master in Cultural studies. Rima, joined the team after returning home from from her 4-year stay in Germany. The young and energetic team will assist you during your travel preparations and during your entire stay on the island. Moreover, they regularly organise meetings with all interns and volunteers and are happy to share insider tips, that will make your stay unique and unforgettable.
