Discover England

“I don’t drink coffee I drink tea my dear.”

English culture can be found everywhere: in the museums, in ancient palaces, or even directly in front of you, and all the time. Your everyday way to work with the Tube ("Please mind the gap"), the dry humor of your employees, the tea breaks at work, which is of course held in specially created Tea corners, or waiting in line for, well everything. The English cuisine is unique and delicious in its own way, and by no means bad, as is often claimed. Our former interns report from the intern perspective, how they perceived the English culture during their internship.

Internship in smaller cities in England

Many globally influential and competitive companies have settled in London. If a long-term stay in a big metropolis like London is a bit too much bustle for you, you could opt for smaller cities in the South of England as Manchester, Brighton, Bristol or Cardiff – however, without compromising on quality. Bristol is a colorful student city with a lively nightlife, Brighton offers a combination of the same entertainment as London a fresh sea breeze, as well as the not too distant and historic coastal town of Cardiff. However, you will very quickly find yourself at home in every city because although many things are different there is something very familiar about each of the cities.

“Look for a bike to rent on the docks of Barclays, around 2 pounds a day, and take a bike ride through the city”

– Jana, an intern at a law firm.

Living in London

Those with only a limited budget available should look outside the City Center for an apartment. The different price levels are divided into zones. One should be aware that you cannot expect a lot of luxury for a small amount of money, but on a budget, you will get to experience the quintessential English lifestyle. Those who are brave enough can book through various internet platforms, rooms in a hostel for the first few days of their stay while they find their way around and search for something more permanent. Our partner organization will help to organize a homestay with a guest family in London which makes the adventure in England just that bit more perfect.

"I chose a small room near Mitcham. The family was very friendly, my room was cleaned regularly and even breakfast was provided."

– Theresa, an intern in Event Management
